IPL Laser Q & A

How does IPL work?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments — sometimes called “IPL photofacials” — are among the safest and most effective solutions for enhancing your skin. With each burst of IPL light, many different wavelengths of light pass into your skin, which can each reach varying depths.

Pigments in cells absorb this intense light energy and convert it into heat. This heating effect forces pigments to shatter so that healthier new skin tissue can rise to the surface.

At the same time, the therapeutic heating effect forces cells to regenerate, turnover, and build up new tissues from the deepest layers. Over time, not only does your skin become more even-toned, but it also appears and feels smoother.

What can IPL treat?

Zarreii Medical and Aesthetics personalizes IPL treatments to your desires and needs. Dr. Zarreii recommends IPL treatments to minimize or improve the appearance of:

  • Rosacea
  • Freckles
  • Age spots
  • Dark spots
  • Birthmarks
  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Spider veins and facial veins

IPL treatments are fast and can be completed in as little as 15-30 minutes, depending on your treatment area. Aside from some minor redness or swelling, you won’t have any downtime and can easily schedule your IPL session at Zarreii Medical and Aesthetics during your lunch hour.

When will I have results with an IPL photofacial?

Your skin is going to be more sensitive than normal after an IPL treatment, so Dr. Zarreii encourages you to wear sunscreen for several days as your skin is healing and to avoid prolonged sun exposure.

However, in order to maintain beautiful blemish-free skin, continued daily use of sunscreen is preferential.

You should start noticing an improvement in your skin’s tone and texture within the first week, with ongoing improvements week after week.

For optimal anti-aging benefits, Dr. Zarreii often recommends a series of three to six IPL sessions, each spaced at least a month apart to give your skin adequate time to heal.

Then to keep your skin looking its best, Dr. Zarreii suggests preventive maintenance IPL sessions about once or twice a year.
