Hair Transplant Q & A

What is a hair transplant?

A hair transplant is just that - the relocation of human hairs from one part of the body to another. While other hair-loss products and therapies may offer some results, a hair transplant is the most effective way to restore volume to areas affected by age-related hair loss.

Hair undergoes a number of changes as you age. It loses color, or melanin. That’s why your hair may be turning gray. It also becomes thinner, more brittle, and grows more slowly. Some follicles stop growing completely.

A hair transplant can’t stop the aging process or change your genetic predisposition to baldness, but it can restore hair in places where you’re lacking.

Am I a good candidate for a hair transplant?

A hair transplant procedure is ideal if you:

  • Want better results than prescription medications and other treatments can offer
  • Are in good health and have ruled out underlying health conditions as the cause of your hair loss
  • Are familiar with all the procedure involves and have realistic expectations for results
  • Are willing to follow Dr. Zarreii’s instructions for a safe and speedy recovery
  • Understand that optimal results may not appear for up to 8-12 months after your procedure

A consultation with Dr. Zarreii is really the best way to determine if a hair transplant will help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

What does a hair transplant involve?

Hair restoration with hair transplants has been around in some form since the 1950s. Doctors used to remove sections of the scalp and implant them in areas with hair loss. While effective, it also left men and women with the unnatural look of “hair plugs.”

Today’s hair transplant techniques offer more subtle, natural results. Dr. Zarreii transplants much smaller sections, called “micrografts.” Each micrograft contains one or two hairs, allowing him to maintain a natural hair growth pattern.

After about a month, this transplanted hair falls out to be followed a few months later by brand new growth. You can expect to have the best results around 8-12 months after your hair transplant. Dr. Zarreii checks in routinely to ensure you’re healing well and the process is progressing as expected. Individual results will vary.
